Type de texte destiné à produire sur le récepteur un certain effet extralinguistique en provoquant chez lui une réaction déterminée, et parfois en le conduisant à des actes concrets. 

Lorsque l’on traduit un texte incitatif, tous les efforts doivent être faits pour que la version-cible déclenche le même effet que le texte original. Le traducteur peut par conséquent être amené à prendre quant à la forme et quant au contenu des libertés plus grandes que pour les autres types de textes. 

1- Dans la version française de l’ouvrage de Reiss , Bocquet propose trois équivalents pour désigner ce type de textes : textes incitatifs, textes à fonction d’incitation ou textes à dominante incitative.

2- Peuvent être qualifiés d’incitatifs tous les textes dans lesquels domine la fonction d’appel de la langue, c’est-à-dire dans lesquels la réclame, la publicité, le zèle missionnaire, la propagande, la polémique, la démagogie ou la satire constituent la fin ou le moyen de l’énoncé linguistique.

3- Être fidèle à l’original c’est surtout, pour un texte incitatif, produire l’effet visé par l’auteur de l‘original et conserver l’incitation contenue dans le texte-source.

The translation of appellative or operative text types (e.g. advertising) aims to provoke in the target readers identical behavioural reactions to those of the reader of the source text, and the translation method called for is adaptation. 

1- This text type can be referred to by the two following terms: « appeal-focused text », which is the term used in the English translation of Reiss’s book , and « operative text », which is the term used by Christiane Nord in .

2- In operative texts, both content and form are subordinate to the extralinguistic effect that the text is designed to achieve. The translating of operative texts into operative texts should be guided by the overall aim of bringing about the same reaction in the audience, although this might involve changing the content and/ or stylistic features of the original.
