Mise en œuvre d’une langue, elle se prête à l’analyse phrastique et transphrastique des langues. Elle est un système sémiotique parmi d’autres ; elle contribue à l’apparition du sens mais ne le contient pas. 

En traductologie, le texte original peut être défini comme le produit d’une interaction entre le traducteur et la matérialité d’une chaîne graphique ou sonore. Il dépasse le cadre de la langue et de la parole, objets statiques de savoir ; il est objet dynamique de compréhension. 

Fait individuel et inné, la parole est l’utilisation concrète de la langue par un individu. Ce sont les sujets parlants qui vont permettre à la langue d’évoluer. Ainsi, un individu, dans son usage personnel de la parole, peut imposer une forme concurrente d’un mot qui va finir par prédominer chez tous les autres sujets parlants.

As the application of a language, it [parole] lends itself to phrasal and trans-phrasal analysis. Parole is one semiotic system among others; it contributes to the appearance of sense but does not contain it.

In Translation Studies, an original text can be defined as the result of the interaction between a translator and a material graphic or oral sequence. The term therefore goes beyond the confines of langue and parole which are static objects of knowledge, since a text is a dynamic object of understanding.

In lectures delivered at the University of Geneva from 1907 to 1913, Swiss linguist Ferdinand de Saussure set forth his groundbreaking distinction between « langue » – the systematic, structured language existing at a given time within a given society – and « parole, » the individual use of that language by a person. In French, « langue » literally means « language. » It was adopted into Middle English with that same general meaning but fell into disuse. « Parole » is also a French word; it means « speech » and is related to Late Latin parabola, the base of our English word parable.

This discipline is focused more specifically on the strategies, methods and various techniques associated with teaching and instruction of translation. It also refers to the ability of a teacher to match theoretical foundations or concepts with practical methods of knowledge transfer in education on translation-related problems, while responding and adapting to the learning strategies of their students. It is learner-centered, since the teaching must be adapted to respond to the complexity of student needs.
