Dès lors qu’un texte a été identifié comme texte informatif, on dispose d’une première instruction, décisive pour choisir la méthode de traduction : le lecteur est en droit d’attendre l’invariance sur le plan du contenu […] qu’il souhaite recevoir sous une forme respectueuse de l’usage en langue-cible. 

1- Dans la version française de l’ouvrage de Reiss , Bocquet propose deux équivalents pour désigner ce type de textes : « textes à dominante informative » ou « textes informatifs ». 

2- On pourrait ranger sous le type informatif les textes des genres suivants : les nouvelles de journaux, les commentaires publiés dans la presse, les reportages, la correspondance commerciale, les catalogues, les modes d’emploi, les descriptifs d’inventions, les documents, les papiers officiels, les ouvrages didactiques, les monographies, en tout genre, les dissertations, les essais, les rapports, les traités, les textes spécialisés traitant des sciences humaines, des sciences de la nature ou de techniques.

Gravité de la maladie : On ne sait pas encore clairement si l’infection par le variant Omicron provoque une maladie plus grave qu’une infection par d’autres variants, notamment Delta. Les premières informations disponibles laissent entendre que les taux d’hospitalisation augmentent en Afrique du Sud, mais cela peut être dû à l’augmentation du nombre total de personnes infectées, plutôt qu’aux conséquences d’une infection spécifique au variant Omicron.

In informative texts, the choice of linguistic and stylistic forms is subordinate to this [informative] function. Since the typology is assumed to be universal, this applies to both the source and the target cultures. In a translation in which both the source and the target texts are of the informative type, the translator should attempt to give a correct and complete representation of the source text’s content and should be guided, in terms of stylistic choices, by the dominant norms of the target language and culture.

This text type can be referred to by the two following terms: « content-focused text », which is a term used in the English translation of Reiss’s book , and « informative text », which is a term used by Christiane Nord in .

Current knowledge about Omicron (WHO) 

Severity of disease: It is not yet clear whether infection with Omicron causes more severe disease compared to infections with other variants, including Delta.  Preliminary data suggests that there are increasing rates of hospitalization in South Africa, but this may be due to increasing overall numbers of people becoming infected, rather than a result of specific infection with Omicron.
