Le traducteur devra […] distinguer entre ce qui est imposé au rédacteur et ce que celui-ci a utilisé librement. […] En LD ce sont surtout les options qui doivent retenir l’attention. En LA le traducteur devra compter avec les servitudes qui entravent sa liberté d’expression et il devra aussi savoir choisir entre les options qui s’offrent à lui pour rendre les nuances du message.

A choice of linguistically correct and semantically precise expressions that translators think of at the point where they reexpress a segment of the source text in the target text.

Translators must […] distinguish between the servitudes imposed upon writers and the options they have freely chosen. […] In the analysis of the SL translators must pay particular attention to the options. In the TL they must take account of the servitudes which limit their freedom of action and must also be able to choose from among the available options to express the nuances of the message.
